How-To

  1. Start by digging four holes for the posts that will support the pergola swing. Each hole should be 2 feet deep and 2 feet wide. The holes should be evenly spaced, with a distance of 6 feet between them.
  2. Insert the 4x4 posts into the holes, making sure they are level and plumb. Use a spirit level to check the posts in both directions.
  3. Fill the holes with concrete and let them dry for at least 24 hours.
  4. Cut the 2x6 boards to the length of 6 feet. These will be the top beams of the pergola swing.
  5. Attach the top beams to the posts using 6-inch lag bolts. Make sure the beams are level and evenly spaced.
  6. Cut the 2x4 boards to the length of 8 feet. These will be the support beams of the pergola swing.
  7. Attach the support beams to the posts using 3-inch deck screws. Make sure the beams are level and evenly spaced.
  8. Cut the 1x4 boards to the length of 6 feet. These will be the slats of the pergola swing.
  9. Attach the slats to the top and support beams using 2-inch deck screws. Leave a small gap between each slat for ventilation.
  10. Cut the 1x6 boards to the length of 4 feet. These will be the seat of the pergola swing.
  11. Attach the seat to the slats using 2-inch deck screws. Make sure the seat is level and evenly spaced.
  12. Sand the pergola swing to remove any rough spots or splinters.
  13. Paint or stain the pergola swing to match your outdoor decor.
  14. Enjoy your newly built pergola swing!
